We took our first horse ride this week. There are plenty of horses and other animals around the countryside, here. Esther and Nine finally got me on a horse, which WASN'T A DISASTER. I attribute this to the horse's good horse-sense, and Nine's excellent advice.

The countryside couldn't be prettier; it's in a constant state of change, though the temperature has been staying pretty steady at 68 F, or so (Sorry Houstonians). Since this is a high altitude valley, I believe this is -more or less- the weather. The villagers say that there is a "Windy season" and a much rainier season. It usually rains every day, but it's usually sunny everyday, too.
Now, about the local animals...
The one that isn't Esther is a Guanabana. Makes unbelievable juice; a little hard to eat "al fresca" unless you're really enthusiastic (see photo)
Village Saloon? Au Contraire!! It's a French bakery!
A visit to the Ostrich farm. Puts birds on a different footing.
"You gonna GIVE me that food or will I have to TAKE IT!"
(theme from the good, the bad, and the ugly)
Nine, chasing a bunny.
Nine, still chasing the bunny.
Nine, chasing the bunny off the property. There were a lot of bunnies that needed chasing.
Nine, distracted from chasing bunnies.
And then, some funny construction projects.
Is that how they replace a church roof? Absolutely nerve-wracking to look at.
Here's one for Tracker Dan. The natives, or rather, the fourth graders, build a pine branch hut in the playground. The tree that got knocked down there has been the single most used piece of playground equipment I've ever seen. They finally cit the tree up (into lumber!) and the kids continued playing with the branches.
The smaller natives (the third graders) build their own shelter. You can see Nine and her friend peeking out if you look closely. That's all for "This wild Planet" this week.
best regards, john
