And then they danced!

You might think that we just pulled into a
tough town with some mean hombres...

Though once you get to know them,
they don't seem so tough anymore.

Especially when they dance.

Actually, it's Family Day at Nine's school and all the
grades are doing their part at making sense of
History.

There's a fair bit of historical re-enactment
(notice the Captain's fine horse)

Which often leads to forgotten lines.  But then, they all
do the sensible thing, and dance!

Tres Elegante!

Nicely done, kids!  That was great!

Then the grownups dance!  Even when it rains, it seems like
a rule that the band plays until everyone else leaves.

Off to learn about wool.  We went out to a small
farm to learn the whole process.  Unfortunately for this blog,
I videotaped the whole thing, so not many pictures.

It all starts with capturing and shearing a sheep, of course.

Then you have to twist it and pull it just right.  Alliath
gives some pointers to Esther.

Much later, you can knit it. But not
like that, more like this...

No, actually it's more like...  no, you have to...

No, no, it's more like this.  If you just do it,..

the way I'm telling you, just put to loop...

like this.  Just move your hands this way and,
That's it!  You got it!!  Good work Esther!

And then, in lieu of dancing, this woman sings a
questionable song about questionable people who may or
may not be dancing.  And we pose for a group photo.

Hat, scarf, and Poncho, all made by these women.
And some sheep, of course.

And one final thing,

Happy Solstice, One navigates this labyrinth with
a question and an offering.  I hope your
own personal labyrinth has yielded
an encouraging answer.

  1. I completely forgot that it was Solstice! I like the idea of entering the labyrinth with a question...very symbolic and literal. Mostly we just think "how the hell do I get out of this labyrinth?"
    Happy Solstice!
